      PAPER STORIES

      • Origami Definition:

        • "Origami" combines Japanese words "ori" (to fold) and "gami" (paper).
        • Art of paper folding, possibly of Chinese origin.
        • Typically uses square paper, no cutting or glue.
        • Variations include rectangular paper and banknotes.
        • Kirigami involves cutting paper.
      • Types of Origami:

        • Classic Origami:
          • Uses a single piece of paper.
          • Creates animal or object figures, sometimes with multiple pieces.
        • Modular (Pieced) Origami:
          • Combines multiple pieces to create 3D geometric shapes.
          • Similar to interlocking toys with unlimited shapes.
        • Modern Variations:
          • Includes architectural, pop-up, and kirigami.
          • Allows cutting and gluing.
          • Kirigami is symmetrical, while origami focuses on shaping.
      • Cultural Significance:

        • The crane is significant in Japanese culture.
        • Making 1000 cranes is believed to bring a long, beautiful life.
        • Popularized by Sadako Sasaki, a girl affected by the Hiroshima bombing.
          • She aimed to make 1000 cranes for recovery but died after 644 cranes.
          • August 6, anniversary of Hiroshima bombing, is celebrated in her memory.
          • Children make cranes for peace and send them to her monument.
